Visit most famous volcanic crater in the world, Diamond Head, for breathtaking views of the whole island of Oahu. Located on the South-east Coast of O'ahu at the end of Waikiki overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It was originally named Laeahi by the ancient Hawaiians, for "brow of the tuna" because of the resemblance of the crater's silhouette. Its current name was given to the crater by British sailors in the 1800's. When they first saw the crater at a great distance, the calcite crystals in the lava rock appeared to glimmer in the sunlight. The sailors mistakenly thought there must be diamonds in the soil. Diamond Head is a crater that has been extinct for 150,000 years. The crater is 3,520 feet in diameter with a 760-foot summit. Participants bike from our HHSurf Shop, around Diamond Head stopping off at the Diamond Head Lookout. Then, they bike through the tunnel into the Diamond Head crater and hike up to the observation Decks above Diamond Head. The bike ride is approximately 15 minutes and the hike lasts approximately 2 hours, but may vary from person to person. Afterwards, they bike back to our shop and have a sandwich and a drink at Lulu’s Surf Club Waikiki beach, located upstairs the HH Surf Shop.
